Message from our Ministers

A very warm welcome to you on behalf of The Avenue Church!

We are thrilled that you have found our new website and would be delighted to welcome you to our Sunday worship services if you ever visit this beautiful part of Great Britain.

‘The Avenue’ is a united Methodist and United Reformed Church and we are located right at the heart of the Market Town of Newton Abbot in beautiful South Devon.

We are also part of a Methodist ‘circuit’ comprising eight other churches extending from here in the town centre right into the heart of Dartmoor where we have three chapels serving the farming communities there as well as the numerous holiday makers who visit that wild and magnificent expanse of moorland every year. You will be able to take a ‘virtual’ tour of our varied circuit churches as you explore this website.

Our central aim at ‘The Avenue’ is to make real the glory of God our creator as He is revealed in the person and work of Jesus Christ His Son and through the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit.

We try to do this in all the ways that are available to us: by word and Worship; by community involvement and caring service; by teaching programmes and social activities, to young and old, to church-goers and to those still seeking a faith to live by, in church and in the community. And now, by means of the worldwide web as well!

You will find a wealth of information about us here and we plan to keep the site up to date and developing so that you can access not only news from ‘The Avenue’, but, more important and even more exciting, you will be able to receive presentations concerning God’s Good News for today’s world as well.

We hope you will enjoy browsing. We hope even more that you will return often. Share with us the growing work of ‘The Avenue’ as we seek to make God’s radical Good News real in the thrilling but dangerous days of the twenty-first century.
